Herbs That Can Help You Quit Smoking?

Hi everybody I’m after some content information about herbs that can help you quit smoking, if you know of any books, news media or herbalists online who can help, that would be wonderful, I guess specifically I want to know of herbs that people have actually used, the dosage and period in which you can safely consume them. I have heard that sage, marjoram and green teas, can be quite useful, but I haven’t personally tried these herbs, hopefully someone else has.

I am also wanting to use this information for my website

http://www.quitsmokingforever.biz/

so I will need resources of where the information or source came from if possible, always give credit where credit is due I say!

Thanks for your help

Nat :)
I am also in the process of getting ready to quit smoking, hence the reason of creating my own website, I would also love to try your recommendations :)
Thank you Magica, that’s a great place to start!
Thanks for your help too Cratty, that is also great advice :)

There aren’t any herbs that a professional would suggest you use in an attempt to quit smoking, like many other ideas including hypnosis and lasers.

There are a number of medications that are clinically proven to help in quit attempts including Nicotine gum, Nicotine Inhalers, Nicotine patches, Zyban, Wellbutrin, and the newest drug available is Chantix.

The best idea is to go to your doctor and discuss it with them, they will be able to help you pick the best medication for you.

ALSO- it is proven that getting counciling, either one-on-one or in a group is highly beneficial as well as support from friends or family.

addiction problems

Whenever a person suffers from drug addiction it becomes much harder for him to return back to his normal life. The fact is that these days people are having such a busy schedule of life and moreover, the stress of job is also so high that it sometimes becomes quite difficult to handle them and to manage it most of us have to take some painkillers and other stress bursting medicines. At times these drugs seem to be the most faithful friend as they help in reducing the stress and anxiety. But on the other side of the coin the regular use of these drugs proves them the most vicious foe that can ruin your life completely. The point is that the regular use of these prescription drugs without consulting the doctor does just the opposite of helping you to manage your stress. And the most fearsome thing in this respect is that the regular use of these painkillers makes the body immune to the initial doses of the drug and therefore the result is that one cannot get the desired effect of the drug and thus increases the dose by himself without consulting the doctor to get the desired result. And with this increment of the dose the body also grows immune to it also after a certain time thus resulting in further increase in the dosage.

When this practice goes on at a regular basis this gives rise to a bigger problem which is that the person becomes dependent on the particular drug. Moreover, another important fact in this context is that the person himself is unaware of the fact that he is getting addicted to that particular drug. Therefore, it is essential to know and identify the symptoms of painkiller addiction. This is very much important to identify the symptoms of painkiller addiction to know whether you are getting addicted to painkillers or not. This is essential because it is a very common fact and almost every one of us do take painkillers for some reason or the other. But that does not mean that every one who takes painkillers is addicted to them. Therefore to find out if you are addicted to drugs it is important to identify the symptoms of painkiller addiction. And after that if it is found that the person is addicted to painkillers or any other prescription drugs then the best thing to is to contact a good rehab center so that he may go through the proper treatment procedure to get rid of his addiction problem.

In this respect Sunset Malibu is a well known field where you can have a proper and systematic treatment for drug addiction. Here you can find the perfect solution to the addiction problem. One of the most important thing that is given proper attention here is the psychological treatment along with the physical drug detox. This is very much essential for the complete cure to provide the patient psychological treatment and support along with physical treatment so that he can return back to his normal life. If this is not given proper attention the patient may face problems in his later life or even may get to addiction once more after the treatment procedure is over.

stop smoking remedies

With millions of smokers desperate to quit, there seems to be an unending barrage of tips, ideas and suggestions on how to stop smoking. If you are currently a smoker, I’m sure you’ve heard of many of them. Perhaps you’ve even tried one or two things, but you’re still looking for that one method that will work for you. Luckily, the chances that you’ll eventually be successful are pretty good.

Millions of people, who were once dedicated smokers, are now ex-smokers. If they could do it, surely you can too. You just need to find the right method that works for you. As you already know, it’s easy enough to start puffing away on those cigarettes, but it’s really hard when you try to quit.

Here’s something positive for you to think about. Each and every day, you actually go six to eight hours without having a cigarette. It doesn’t matter if you are a heavy or light smoker. There is a long period of time when you do not have a single cigarette. Guess when.

Stumped?

When you’re asleep at night.

Think about it. Each night when you go to sleep, you usually do not wake up in the middle of the night with a craving for cigarettes. Maybe you want one right after waking up, but during the night, your cigarette addiction is asleep as well. This means that you can, in fact, go for long periods without having a cigarette while you’re awake.

Some of the more popular ways to kick the habit are hypnosis, nicotine aids, medications, and the always popular cold turkey method. Many smokers don’t think they can go the cold turkey route, but many people are successful doing it this way. The bottom line on quitting is: different strokes for different folks – use whatever you think will work best for you.

Here are three of the all time best ways to quit smoking:

Hypnosis

Many people, who are struggling to give up smoking, find hypnosis is the answer they’ve been looking for to finally end their addiction. When you visit a hypnotist to stop smoking, they will put you in a relaxed state and then give you positive suggestions concerning your smoking habit.

You will hear the message over and over again that you no longer need, or have any desire, to smoke cigarettes. Because you are in a relaxed state, your subconscious mind will be very open to this suggestion. Our subconscious minds play a big role in our everyday behavior. This is why hypnosis therapy is so powerful.

You don’t have to visit a hypnotherapist to quit smoking. You can buy a hypnosis CD or Mp3 download that will have the same powerful message that you can listen to repeatedly. If you go this route, make sure you are relaxed and free of stress to obtain the best results.

Stop Smoking Aids

What makes giving up cigarettes so difficult for many people is the withdrawal symptoms from nicotine. Nicotine is a powerful addictive substance and when you begin pulling away from it, you may experience extreme irritability, as well as, cravings.

Many people turn to stop smoking aids to avoid the unpleasant side effects of quitting. There’s the nicotine patch, nicotine gum and inhalers. Recently, there is a pill that is supposed to be very good for smoking cessation.

Some of these aids are available over the counter, while others need a doctor’s prescription. If you have any questions or concerns about these methods, you should consult your doctor.

Cold Turkey

Some people think that going cold turkey is easy, but the reality is that it’s the hardest way to stop smoking. You need to be highly motivated to try this method and quite frankly, most people who think they can simply stop smoking usually find they cannot quit so easily.

Remember that nicotine is a powerful substance and your body and mind is used to having a constant supply. You may throw those cigarettes away and tell yourself that you’re not going to touch one ever again, but your mind will begin to crave another cigarette. It’s particularly hard when you’re around other smokers.

Many people fail their first time going cold turkey, and if this happens to you, don’t get too upset. It may take you two or more tries before you can finally quit

smoking for good.

To help yourself, you can write down positive affirmations and read them every day. You can also give yourself a little reward for reaching small goals – like pay

yourself a dollar for each day you go without having a cigarette.

Whatever method you use, make a firm commitment that you will see it through until you are successful. Your long-term health is more important than sticking with an old habit that offers nothing but the promise of expensive medical bills down the road. Kick the habit today – you can do it!

Smoking’s bad for your health, but exactly how does quitting make life better?

More cash
If you smoke 20 cigarettes a day, quitting will save you over £2,000 a year.

Better sex
Stopping smoking improves the body’s blood flow, so improves sensitivity. Men who stop smoking may get better erections and women may find their orgasms improve and they become aroused more easily. It’s also been found that non-smokers are three times more appealing to the opposite sex than smokers (one of the advantages, perhaps, of smelling fresh).

Improved fertility
Non-smokers find it easier to get pregnant. Quitting smoking improves the lining of the womb and can make men’s sperm more potent. Becoming a non-smoker increases the possibility of conceiving through IVF and reduces the likelihood of having a miscarriage. Most important of all, it improves the chances of giving birth to a healthy baby.

Younger looking skin
Stopping smoking has been found to slow facial aging and delay the appearance of wrinkles. The skin of a non-smoker gets more nutrients, including oxygen, and can reverse the sallow, lined complexion that smokers often have.

Whiter teeth
Giving up tobacco stops teeth becoming stained and means you’ll have fresher breath. Ex-smokers are also much less likely than smokers to suffer from gum disease and lose their teeth prematurely.

Better breathing
People breathe more easily and cough less when they give up smoking because their lung capacity improves by up to 10% within nine months. In your 20s and 30s, the effect of smoking on your lung capacity may not be noticeable until you go for a run, but lung capacity naturally diminishes with age. In later years, having access to maximum lung capacity can make all the difference between having an active, healthy old age and wheezing when going for a walk or climbing the stairs.

Longer life
It’s common knowledge that half of all long-term smokers die early (half of them by middle age) from smoking-related diseases including heart disease, lung cancer and chronic bronchitis. Men who quit smoking by 30 add 10 years to their life. People who kick the habit at 60 add three years to their life. In other words, it’s never too late to benefit from stopping. Quitting not only adds years to your life, it greatly improves the chance of a disease-free, mobile, happier old age.

Less stress
Scientific studies show that people’s stress levels are lower after they stop smoking. Nicotine addiction makes smokers stressed from the ‘withdrawal’ between cigarettes; the pleasant feeling of satisfying that craving is only temporary and is not a real cure for stress. In addition, the improved levels of oxygen going through the body means ex-smokers can concentrate better and have increased mental well-being.

Improved senses
Kicking the smoking habit gives your senses of smell and taste a boost as the body recovers from being dulled by the hundreds of toxic chemicals in cigarettes.

More energy
Within two to 12 weeks of stopping smoking, the circulation improves, making all physical activities, including walking and running, much easier. The boost to the immune system from quitting will make it easier to fight off colds and flu. And the increase in oxygen in the body makes ex-smokers less fatigued and less likely to suffer from headaches.

You can find a host of articles to help you with all aspects of quitting smoking in the Stop Smoking section of the NHS Choices website at http://www.nhs.uk/stopsmoking/.

stop smoking foods
What are some ways to stop smoking cigs without using food as a replacement?

I have tried gum, patch, cold turkey etc… I have recently gotten bronchitis and have tried cold turkey again but I’m eating EVERYTHING! I’m not overweight but I will be if I don’t get on the right track! Any good suggestions?
Thank y’all for all of your advice….very helpful!

Try the electronic cigarette. You are looking for something to put into your mouth and the action of smoking is really the only thing that might help you. If you think you are good without the nicotine, use a zero mg nicotine cartridge.

Hypnotize yourself to QUIT !!
